Directed by Cliff Fannin Baker, The Medium is the story of Madam Flora, a charlatan and fake who cynically convinces grieving clients that she is communicating with their dead children. In the middle of an elaborately staged session, she realizes to her horror that she may in fact have contacted forces from the other side.

The Medium has been described by critics as a dark, dissonant, but engaging account of a fortune-teller who, in Menotti's words, is "caught between two worlds: a world of reality which she cannot wholly comprehend and a supernatural world in which she cannot wholly believe."
