Zahn Rock Garden

The Earline and Doug Zahn Rock Garden serves as a focal point on Wildwood’s Butler Hill. California Poppies, Native Butterfly Weeds and Texas Bush Sage are just a few of the 56 varieties of Waterwise and Xeriscape plants embedded in the elevated slate and boulders. Looking south, the rock garden’s looks out across the Arboretum and onto Swan Lake.

  • Rudbeckia species are used as food plants by the caterpillars of some Lepidoptera species including Cabbage Moth and Dot Moth.
  • Milkweed is a popular food for monarch butterflies as they migrate through the area on their way to and from breeding grounds in Mexico.
  • Because the pasque flower typically blooms in early spring, it was named after the festival of the Passover.
